Waka Poem Composing Party
A volunteer tour guide organizes for English speakers,
the following guided tour to observe a time-honored elegant open-air Waka Poem Composing Party in Heian Period Manner at garden of Jonan-gu Shrine, Kyoto,
Meeting at 9:30 a.m.
In front of Kyoto City Tourist Information Office on the 2nd floor of
Paul S. Satoh, a tour guide meets you and goes with you by City Bus to Jonan-gu Shrine. There we observe a time-honored Heian Period (794-1184)style Waka (31-syllabled poem) composing open-air party in the garden of Jonan-gu Shrine.
Every composer compose a Waka poem before a Sake-filled cup flows down to him or to her in a winding stream in the garden.
Such a Sake cup as a duck is floating down from up-stream to the place where a composer sits down along the stream to receive it.
This elegant ceremonial poem composing party had been usually held in the garden of Imperial Palace in Kyoto.
All the participating composers wear exactly in the old costumes of the Heian Period and traditional ceremonial dances are also performed at the stage nearby in the garden.
It is worthwhile visiting and observing such a unique and rare poem composing party in Modern time.
Your own expenses are estimated \500 for City Bus round trip, \1,000 for lunch and \ 1,000 for tip to the tour guide .
Please come and join this cultural guided tour on the Culture Day, National Holiday if it is convenient for you and interested in such a event of culture in Kyoto
